Cancer Council WA is a community-funded, not-for-profit organisation that supports cancer research, runs prevention programs, and provides support to thousands of WA Families affected by cancer each year.

For the last two years, WA Charity Direct has provided funding support of their Financial Hardship program.  This program provides short-term crisis support in the way of food and petrol vouchers to clients of Cancer Council WA experiencing significant financial distress as a result of their cancer diagnosis and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Acceptance into this program is only after all other avenues have been exhausted.  WA Charity Direct’s funding will provide short term crisis support to over 150 people easing the financial and emotional distress associated with a cancer diagnosis.

For one such client, Marina, the financial assistance came at the perfect time after a shock cancer diagnosis just weeks after purchasing her home.

“It was a complete whirlwind; only weeks before I was planning to move into my new home and then all of a sudden, I was forced to deal with this cancer diagnosis. And to top it off, the COVID-19 pandemic hit during the midst of my cancer treatment. It was incredibly scary.”

“I am so incredibly grateful for the financial assistance during a very stressful time in my life.”
