In 2015, Perth locals Ron and Michael set up the Perth Homeless Support Group (PHSG) after noticing increasing numbers of displaced and homeless people. Their primary goal is to relieve the stress on those experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, by assisting with their basic needs.

WA Charity Direct has been supporting PHSG since 2019 in a few different ways. We began with funding support of the much needed care packs that are distributed weekly to up to 230 people at the Sunday Morning Outreach Program. The Care Packs consist of basic items like toiletries, non-perishable items and seasonal clothing items.

In 2020, WA Charity Direct provide funding to assist with the set-up of their new larger warehouse space in Bayswater. Our funding purchased a commercial fridge and pantry shelving. The setup in the new space allows for efficient distribution and product donation management.

Our most recent funding in 2021 supports the Rescue Hamper Program. The emergency hamper distribution is a new initiative in response to a growing community need. Upon referral, the hampers are created for individuals or Families at risk of homelessness or recently re-housed and experiencing financial difficulties. The hampers provide food for the recipient for up to one week and is seen as short term measure to help get through a current period of distress.
